Plea seeks Jatoi’s trial for ‘high treason’

LAHORE: An advocate on Monday moved a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) Lahore Registry to initiate proceedings of high-treason under article 6 of the constitution against the former federal minister for defence production Abdul Qayyum Jatoi for passing derogatory remarks against Pakistan Army, the judiciary and requesting for giving equal opportunities of corruption.

Petitioner Muhammad Safdar Shaheen Pirzada also requested to initiate contempt proceedings against the MNA and asked the court to disqualify him from holding the National Assembly seat from NA-Muzaffargarh-V.

The petitioner stated that Jatoi during a press conference on September 25, allegedly made derogatory remarks against the army and judiciary. He stated that the respect and dignity of both army and the judiciary was highly valuable for every citizen and what the minister allegedly said, had hurt everybody.

He stated that the minister’s statement should be considered as government policy and not only he should he be punished for committing contempt of the court, but also a reference might be made to the Election Commission.
