MELBOURNE - AN AUSTRALIAN security expert has warned that there is a risk terrorists may try to kidnap tourists from Australia, New Zealand, Canada or Britain at the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Mr Roger Henning, the spokesman for counter-terrorism consultancy Homeland Security Asia-Pacific, told Sydney's Sunday Telegraph that tourists' safety was not guaranteed.
'Delhi is not a safe place. There is a risk of terrorists kidnapping trophy tourists from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK,' he said.
He said there was also a risk that a terrorist group could abduct a small group or even a bus-load of tourists to generate global publicity for their cause.
He advised Australians attending the Games in New Delhi against wearing the national colours of green and gold or flying Australian flags.
'People should not fly Australian flags. People shouldn't wear an Aussie T-shirt, drape themselves in the Aussie flag or draw attention to themselves in any other clothing that is identifiable as Australian,' Mr Henning said.
