LAHORE (September 24, 2010) : Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) handed-over 1,200 bags of flour and other eatables to Pakistan Army, here on Thursday. Chairman PIAF Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, Advisor to Governor Gilgit-Baltistan on Investment Mian Shafqat Ali, Mudassar Masood Chaudhry, Sheikh Muhammad Irfan and Anwaar A. Sheikh were present on the occasion.
This is the sixth consignment for flood affectees as PIAF has already dispatched five consignments comprising flour, ghee, sugar, rice, dry milk, pickle, dates, biscuits, tea, roasted grams, dal channa, salt, red chilli, candles, match boxes, water bottles and a tent, for the flood affectees. Expressing his views, Chairman PIAF Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said all segments of society would have to join hands for early rehabilitation of flood affectees as the devastation scale is beyond estimations and the government alone cannot cope with it.
He announced that more relief goods would be dispatched to five other destinations in coming days. He said PIAF is arranging food supplies, clothing, medicines and tents from the funds it is collecting from its members, and truckloads of these supplies would be dispatched to all parts of the country.
PIAF office-bearers and its executive committee would personally supervise distribution of goods, he added. "The response to PIAF appeal for donations is overwhelming". This, he said, has given a new strength and encouragement to PIAF whose members are working for the rehabilitation of their brothers and sisters with a new vigour.
He thanked the business community for extending maximum co-operation to their brothers and sisters. He vowed that PIAF would continue its efforts for the rehabilitation of flood-hit people and restoration of economic activities in the flood-ravaged areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Advisor to Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Shafqat Ali said the calamity caused by the floods is extremely severe. "Government alone cannot cope with the situation", he said adding that the whole nation, particularly those with better resources, would have to rise to the occasion and play their role in reducing the stress of the flood victims. He said PIAF has decided to observe austerity during its election campaign for the LCCI elections being held on September 20 and 21.
