30 militants killed in Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 30 militants were killed Tuesday when Pakistani army and police carried out a search operation in the northwestern city of Peshawar, army sources told Xinhua.

The army and Frontier Constabulary have destroyed scores of hideouts since the beginning of the joint operation on Sept. 18, they said.

The operation is still underway in Bora, Hassan Khel and Pastonai areas of Peshawar, the capital of northwest province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The forces have cleared Bora and Hassan Khel areas of the criminals after meeting tough resistance.

Two security personnel have so far been injured in the operation, which was launched after receiving credible information that terrorists are regrouping and set to launch subversive activities in Peshawar.

Earlier, at least 14 militants were killed and about nine militant hideouts were destroyed on Monday.
