PAF ( Pakistan Air Force ) Aircrafts Timeline Part 6 1971

In the war of 1971 Pakistanis were having 270 combat aircrafts and InAF was having 1200 combat aircrafts.

Pakistan aircrafts faced following defence syestem.

S-75 (SA-2 Guideline)

Pakistan was relied ( Dependant ) on

1. 80 Shenyang F-6 for air defence

2. 24 Mirrage III for air offenses


On November 22 Pakistan F-86 sabres attacked Mukti Bahini near India Bangladeshi border. During this attack 3 out of 4 Pakistan F-86 Sabres were shot down by Indian Air Force Gnats picture given below.

ACM Lal writes that two major craters on the runway at InAF base Halwara were made by 3 of 8 bombs dropped by PAF B-57 Canberra bombers. Picture of B-57 is below.

At the InAF base Amritsar, an attack by four Mirage III fighters, which caused little damage, was followed up by several attacks which made 4 to 5 craters in the runway

That was the most lost war for Pakistan air forces because at the ending stages of war PAF was disable to aid Pakistan Army when Pakistan Army call them again and again for assistance. Many of Pakistani aircrafts were lost in that war. India claimed that they destroyed 94 PAF aircrafts including 54 F-86 Sabres.
