NATO: Taliban commander killed in Afghanistan...Missile strike hits Pakistan militants

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — NATO says a Taliban commander who planned to attack polling stations during next week's elections and four other insurgents have been killed in eastern Afghanistan. The military alliance says NATO and Afghan forces killed the five Saturday night after they displayed "hostile intent."

MIR ALI, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike early Sunday has killed at least four associates of a warlord who is fighting Western troops in Afghanistan. The officials say two missiles targeted a home in North Waziristan where the militants were believed to be staying.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) — The police chief in the San Francisco suburb where a gas pipeline ruptured and exploded, wiping out homes and killing four people, says 5 people are still missing. Authorities say the pipeline section in San Bruno was ranked as high risk because it ran through a highly populated area.

BEIJING (AP) — China is increasing pressure on Tokyo to immediately release the Chinese fishermen and their boat that collided with two Japanese patrol vessels on Tuesday. Beijing's senior foreign policy adviser summoned Japanese ambassador early Sunday to warn Japan to make a "wise" resolution.
