Maid arrested for stealing jewellery in Mumbai

The Cuffe Parade police have arrested a 28-year-old housemaid for allegedly stealing ornaments from the residence of her employer, an Indian Navy official. The accused, Shilpa Nitin Pingle, reportedly gifted one of the stolen gold rings to her husband and sold the remaining to a jeweller in Nashik.

Pingle, a resident of Shiv Shakti Nagar in Cuffe Parade, was employed at the residence of Lt Commander Anupranjan Truptinarayan Mishra in Gegotri Building near Afghan Church.
In his complaint to the police, Mishra, 33, has alleged that between June 1 and June 14 this year, Pingle made off with gold and diamond-studded ornaments worth Rs80,000 from his residence.

According to a police officer, Mishra became suspicious after Pingle stopped coming to work without any notice. “When he checked his belongings, he discovered that some ornaments had gone missing,” the officer said, adding that on Tuesday they received a tip-off that the accused would be arriving near Churchgate railway station.

Probe revealed that Pingle had initially kept the booty at Colaba and had later sold it off to a jeweller in Nashik. “A police team will soon leave for Nashik to recover the stolen ornaments. She gifted one of the stolen rings to her husband who is not traceable,” the officer said, adding that Pingle is in police custody.
